Workarounds, honestly

DNS, VPN routers, firmware rollback, mainboard swaps and paid unlocks: what owners report.

No-go zones and virtual walls on the robot's map in VacDeck

Every workaround so far has worked for some people for a while. DNS and VPN tricks get blocked, rolled-back firmware can update itself again, and paid unlocks can be re-flagged. A global mainboard is the most lasting fix owners describe, and also the most work.

Does the Mindsolo DNS trick still work?

Advice

Its makers say it makes the robot think it is in mainland China, with no guarantee and only “until the manufacturer fixes it”. Owners report DNS methods getting blocked. We found nothing confirming its status in October 2026.

Can a VPN or a China-IP router do the job?

Advice

Sometimes, for a while. Owners describe setting the robot up once through a mainland China VPN; one self-built VPN router worked until it was blocked, with the owner saying Dreame records the IPs used. Routers made for this are sold on Taobao.

Does rolling back the firmware unlock it?

Advice

One method installs Dreame firmware dated before 28 April 2023. The robot may update itself and undo it, older firmware lacks newer features, and models launched after that date never had such firmware.

Does swapping in a global mainboard remove the lock for good?

Advice

Owners call it the most reliable fix: fit a global board, then set your real region in the app. It means many screws and cables, and a repair shop reports that Dreame later blocked spare boards it had bought.

Are paid unlock services worth it?

Advice

Reported prices run from about $15 to $100. One unlock through a China agent needed device details, a reset and a week offline, and came with a one-week guarantee that does not stop the robot being flagged again.

Is a patched app like MindBridge safe?

Advice

Its own page says it intercepts network traffic through an installed certificate and a WireGuard route, that it may affect the security of your data, and that you take full responsibility. VacDeck works differently: it is a website that installs nothing on your phone and never sits between your phone and the internet.

Where VacDeck helps

VacDeck is not an unlock. It does not touch the firmware, your network or the robot's region. It works with the robot as it is: no firmware change, no reset, no VPN, and the controls are in English.

On a China-only unit used abroad that was enough to read everything and change room names and no-go zones. Use the free trial to see whether your model behaves the same.
